iPad Play - Hey, kids! Want to use an iPad? Hey, adults! Want to motivate your child to learn? Call 330.744.8636 and ask for the librarian at the location you would like to visit. We'll ask for the subject area you'd like to explore with your child and schedule you for a twenty minute session with the Library's iPad. Registration and adult ID (valid license, state ID or library card) is required. For kids from age four to those in sixth grade. Child must be accompanied by an adult.

Sensory Story Time- Join us for a family story time for children of all ages with a sensory focus. Wonderful Worms Will Invade the Library - Read “Diary of a Worm” by Doreen Cronin with the Mahoning County Green Team and meet a young worm who discovers the good and the not so good things about being a worm in this great big world. Then, look at a vermicomposting bin to witness red worms at work in the Earth and make your own worm craft. Recommended for kids in preschool to grade 3.

Show What You Know: Machine Knitting - Watch a knitting machine make a scarf in minutes. Adults and teens will embellish the scarf by weaving 1/4 in. ribbon or yarn thru the knit scarf. Bring a blunt large-eye yarn needle and 3 spools of ribbon or 4 ply yarn. Finish the scarf and wear with pride! Register by calling 330.744.8636 and ask for the Boardman Library.

SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business, in partnership with the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, will have two volunteers in the Business and Investment Center (BIC) of Main Library to provide advice and answer questions. GROW YOUNGSTOWN

Grow Youngstown Digs the Library! –In an innovative partnership, the Library will partner with Grow Youngstown CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to provide a space for pick-up of locally grown fresh produce and will present a special taste-testing demos in the library.

Beginning in June, the East and Poland library branches, participants may pick up their fresh local produce here:
East Library, Tuesdays at 5-6 p.m., lobby area
Poland Library, Tuesdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m., lower level, facilitated by Kravitz Delicatessen

To participate in this program, potential customers must contact Grow Youngstown and make arrangements in advance. Grow Youngstown also provides subsidy to low-income families and accepts EBT.  Participation helps build a strong local food economy that supports producers and ensures healthy food access to more local families. The organization offers a great nutritional value because food travels a short distance to your plate, supports the local economy, is a good price, offers variety, and comes from sustainable sources. Grow Youngstown is Mahoning Valley’s only CSA program and is part of the rapidly growing national movement towards locally produced foods and healthy farming practices.

Join Grow Youngstown for a Taste-Testing Demo - In partnership with the, representatives from Grow Youngstown will present a free program open to the public.  Join them for a taste-testing demo and learn creative ways to prepare local produce.

Outsmarting Inflammatory Disease Using the Summer Harvest - Join Dr. Kathy Padgitt and learn how a whole food, plant-based diet will effectively help reduce and prevent many diseases. Learn simple strategies for improving eating habits that contribute to disease. Food samples and a demo featuring easy-to-make recipes will be provided by Sam Anderson, a Certified Raw Chef. No reservations are needed. Presented in partnership with Grow Youngstown.

Blood Pressure Screening by Easter Seals Private Duty - Easter Seals Private Duty Blood Pressure Screening - Providing free health assessments at the library. A nurse will be available for blood pressure screenings, pulse, oxygen saturation, and weight. Easter Seals Private Duty is offering this service thanks to a grant to provide assessments to seniors in Mahoning County aged 60 plus, but participation will not be limited to seniors at the library.
