Blackout Poetry Contest

     I've been
full of regrets. This      habit   started
 young
        and

 stayed with me   the might-have-dones
    weigh   on me
    I am
not living the life I was meant to

I've come to terms with

  fantasized scenarios, I have embraced

roads not taken

Abigail Slater, Grade 11, Boardman High School

      oysters

        and blossoms
       the ocean     itself
   the prettiest
 crystal,

       to
    imagine

    the sea
    yellow sand

    flowers

       beautiful

  Fishes
  glide   as birds
  fly among

   coral, and
           the clearest amber

  a glittering pearl

Carmel Cerimele, Grade 7, Canfield Village Middle School

Composers Explain
Why

   What compels
       a piece?
         many
  question
       those

  whose works were
      played
        and
   inspired
  the answer

  projected   fondness for

           music

  with   clever touches
     snatches
                     of
    sounds from life
               should be

  a sensual ballad with evocative

                                      passion

  This
      ensemble
        with jazzy
  bends and
        shimmers
         clung soft and

    ended
                    with

      a lingering moment
of time-stilled awe

Rebecca Jeren, Grade 11, Boardman High School
