Michaelina TerranovaMichaelina Terranova Wins iPad Mini in the TeenXTreme Green Man Contest

Michaelina Terranova, 13, eighth grade student at the Jackson-Milton Middle School, was the winner of the second drawing in the TeenXTreme Green Man Contest at the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.

Michaelina heard about the contest when her teacher, Mrs. Fisk, shared the information with the entire class, hoping one of her students would win. And one of them did! Michaelina picked up her iPad Mini at the Tri-Lakes Branch Library, which is located very near the school she attends. She said she was excited to win the iPad mini and she is looking forward to using it.

Green ManHer mom, Jennifer Terranova, is proud that her daughter won the contest, noting that her daughter is a hard worker. Michaelina has a brother and a sister, Anthony, age 10, and Hailey, age 16.

Michaelina’s favorite class is Social Studies. She also likes sports and has participated in cross country, basketball, track and softball.

Principal David Vega was pleased to hear that Michaelina won the contest. He says she is a good student. He is also enthusiastic about the Library, saying it “offers many opportunities and resources that schools can’t always offer and that students can’t get anywhere else.” He added that, “The Library helps kids connect with books. Sometimes in this media-driven society, we lose the importance of the book.” He noted that the middle school teachers often bring students to the Tri-Lakes Branch Library.

Josephine Nolfi, Manager of Programming and Youth Services for the Library, noted, “As technologies change, there is a big change in how our teen population learns and uses libraries. We are pleased to give Michaelina a tool that will help her learn and will put the library at her fingertips. This will keep her engaged in the library experience and give her access to the resources we offer, both physical and virtual.”

Green Man XIn September, 2013, Zoey Hetrick, freshman at Austintown Fitch High School, was the winner of the -first of two drawings for an iPad Mini for the TeenXTreme Green Man contest.

Why does Zoey love her library? “I read a lot. I think the library is one of the best places for information for school. You can’t always trust what you find on the Internet.”

Zoey says she enters a lot of contests, but has never won anything this big before. Congratulations, Zoey!
