The last month of summer has arrived! August is one of the last biggest months for yard and garage sales with those sales being a handy way for people to buy and sell old radios and TVs. Sometimes you bring them home and find they work, and sometimes you discover that they do not. Did you know that the library has a resource to help you learn how to fix those old radios & TVs? It’s SAMS Photofact Online!, opens a new window
SAMS Photofact Online, opens a new window provides manuals with wiring diagrams and parts listings from the earliest TVs and radios up to today’s models. Most manuals are available instantly as PDF documents. A few require a "Request Download" form be filled out, but then will be sent free of charge to your email – often the same day or within 48 hours.
If you can't find the manual you need, you can contact SAMS through their online form for assistance. The form asks for your contact information and the TV/Radio model information you're interested in. A SAMS representative will reply to let you know if they can provide that manual or not.
Even if you aren’t looking to repair a TV or radio, this can be an interesting resource to explore. It can be both fun and educational to browse the old model TVs and radios of yesteryear that your grandparents or great-grandparents (or older generations) may have used in their homes. The oldest models are covered in the John F. Rider Perpetual Troubleshooter's Manuals, easily viewed by clicking Manuals > Types of Manuals > John F. Rider.
For more help in using these resource and locating repair manuals, you can always ask a librarian by calling 330-744-8636, emailing ASK@libraryvisit.org, opens a new window or visiting any PLYMC location, opens a new window.
