June has arrived, and the start of the summertime car cruises are upon us. Whenever I see the many beautiful antique and classic vehicles driving along the roads in Mahoning County, I think about all the hard work their owners have put into renovating and maintaining these cars and trucks. The library is a great tool for them – or anyone needing assistance with auto repair – as we offer two online resources:
- Mitchell’s ProDemand , opens a new windowis an in-library only resource free to use at all public libraries in Mahoning County. It provides access to service manuals from 1960 onward which can be viewed on both library computers and library user’s laptops, tablets, or smartphones when connected to the library’s free PLYMC-Public-Wifi.
- Chilton Library, opens a new window is available to use both in and outside the library. Here, you can locate repair information from 1940 onward. It even includes some engine specification information for 1930’s vehicles. For more on how to use this resource, check out this Niche tutorial, opens a new window.
Along with the online resources, the Main Library has a reference collection of professional service manuals covering cars as early as the Model A Ford up to the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. Plus, you can locate circulating Chilton, Haynes and Motor repair manuals for many current cars, trucks and SUVs in the library catalog, opens a new window.
