YOUNGSTOWN (April 8, 2024/For Immediate Release) – The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) distributed over 5,000 eclipse glasses to the community so that Mahoning County residents can safely view the eclipse. In addition, over 200 people in Mahoning County came to one of our branches to observe the eclipse on Monday.
"We have provided thousands of glasses to people so they can safely watch the eclipse, and many people came to our branches to watch it happen. Many of our library branches have hosted events for kids getting ready for the eclipse as well. That is what libraries are all about – getting people the resources they need and providing them the opportunity to come together,” said Aimee Fifarek, Director & CEO, the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC)
"This is the kind of day that shows just how important libraries are to a community. We do our best to create a sense of community in our area and this is one of the ways we do it. Everyone coming together to witness, for what is for most, a once-in-a-lifetime event is extremely exciting," added Michael Stepp, PLYMC Strategic Communications Officer.
