The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County looks to ascertain reasons for structural concerns at Poland Library. Addressing Structural Concerns at the South End of the Poland Library

While addressing exterior concerns at Poland Library raised by the community in Poland Village, the leadership of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County determined that a full external and structural evaluation of the building was warranted. Preliminary analysis confirmed some movement at the south end of the building on the first floor.  At that point, we informed Mayor Sicafuse and Solicitor Macejko of our discovery, and we have agreed to partner together to fix the problems.

Ensuring the safety and stability of our facilities is our top priority. To address this issue promptly and effectively, we have taken decisive steps to assess the situation and safeguard our valued patrons and staff.

We are engaging a geotechnical engineering firm to conduct a subsurface exploration. This investigation will help us understand the underlying causes of the movement and provide us with recommendations on the most appropriate measures to rectify the issue. The investigation will take place on Monday, July 22nd. The Poland library will be closed on that day.

Additionally, we have retained the services of BSHM Architects from Youngstown, Ohio, a reputable local architectural firm, to assist with this project. BSHM Architects has further retained Seidler Engineering as a structural consultant. Seidler Engineering has already been onsite to assess the situation.

According to Seidler Engineering, the structural integrity of the building has not been compromised. They have confirmed that the building is safe for continued use. Their professional assessment provides us with confidence as we continue to work on addressing the underlying issues.

Our team, along with the experts from BSHM Architects and Seidler Engineering, is dedicated to developing and implementing a comprehensive solution to ensure the longevity and stability of the Poland Library. We will keep our community informed of our progress and any necessary actions that may impact library operations.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work diligently to resolve this matter. Our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors remains unwavering. For further updates, please visit our website or contact our administrative office.
