Summer Discovery is an annual program sponsored by PLYMC to encourage reading and literacy. The program runs from June 1st through July 31st. As a literacy leader in Mahoning County, we recognize the importance of literacy and reading for children and adults. It is a free program for everyone regardless of age. Participants can earn points by reading, discovering something new, or visiting the library, and they can earn prizes all summer long and earn a book if they complete the program.
PLYMC will kick off the event on Saturday, June 1st from 11-1 at Boardman Park. Librarians will have games and activities for participants to enjoy, and musician Tyler Guerrieri will be on hand. Our pop-up van will also be present. Sign up for the program to receive your tote bag. At the end of the program, each branch library will celebrate those who completed the program with their own party, which will be held between August 7-10th.

PLYMC will also partner with Children’s Hunger Alliance to help address child hunger in the area by providing free meals to children over the summer. Anyone 18 and under can participate and the meals must be eaten inside the library. Free meals will be available Monday-Friday, 12-1 p.m. in Youngstown at the Main Library 305 Wick Ave and at East Library at 430 Early Rd. The program runs from June 1st through July 31st. We thank Children’s Hunger Alliance for their continued partnership with us and their funding of this program.
