The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) participated in Governor DeWine’s roundtable discussion about improving literacy and workforce development in the area.

YOUNGSTOWN (April 15, 2024) – The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) participated in Governor DeWine’s roundtable discussion at Beeghly College of Education, McKay Auditorium about Literacy, Education, and Ohio’s Future. 

“As one of the most important literacy leaders in our community, the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) is at the forefront of efforts to raise literacy rates throughout our County,” said Aimee Fifarek, Director and CEO of PLYMC who participated in the roundtable discussion.  “Raising literacy rates also helps prepare more young people and adults to be a part of the modern work force, so we are very pleased to join Governor DeWine in finding solutions to these difficult challenges ahead,” added Fifarek.  

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will publicize more details about its literacy and workforce development programs throughout the year. 


The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) has served the Mahoning Valley since 1880 when the Youngstown Library Association was officially created. With 14 branches across Mahoning County, including Main Library in downtown Youngstown, PLYMC is well known for its signature services and programs like Summer Discovery and 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. PLYMC serves our communities by preparing children for kindergarten, promoting early literacy, assisting job seekers, connecting Valley residents to technology, and providing resources for small businesses.
